Winter Session 2010 Ended

Monday 13th marked the end of Winter Session 2010 in the Indian Parliament. Due to severe protests made by the opposition, the Parliament has suffered under a political lock down during the last session of the year. According to the PRS Legislative Research, Members of Parliament have not been able to spend more than 6 percent of their time conducting politics since the winter session began on Nov 9. The protests are a reaction on the 2G corruption scandal, and has caused the session to end without one Bill being passed. As a result, the proposed National Food Security Bill was not introduced in Parliament. As a sign of respect of the situation, Parliamentarian Forum on Human Rights has obtained from holding meetings. However, the forum has continued its work on the Bill and has already started preparing for the next session. The hope is that the Bill will be passed and implemented during 2011.
